Excess skin is a problem with sudden weight loss over the short period of time, but this is depends on how much you will lose and over how long. Gradual weight loss has less of excess skin problem compared to rapid weight loss. And also, the age of the patient plays an important role in the results of the excess skin.

According to the NHI crieteria there is an equation called Body Mass Index (BMI) and the person has to have BMI of 40 or more to qualify for the surgery, or BMI of 35 or more with medical problem like Diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, arthritis, sleep apnea...etc to qualify for the surgery.

Risks of Bariatric surgery are minimal. Bariatric surgery nowaday is considered safer than heart bypass, hip surgery or even than some of the commonest surgery being done routinely in the US like the gall bladder surgery. Some of the risks are bleeding, infection which are 1% or less, leak from the staple line 2-4%, blockage of the bowel, hernia, blood clot in the leg or the lung < 0.5%

The surgery if being done laparoscopic or Robotic the recovery is fast between 3-4 weeks, the stay in the hospital usually between 1-3 days. The pain is different from one patient to another, but being laparoscopic surgery the pain is much less than open surgery and usually the pain gets better gradually over the period of 3-4 days

We recommend to wait for 12 months after the weight loss surgery prior to get pregnant to maximize your weight loss.

You should be able to drink water as you normally do prior to the surgery. There is no limitation regarding fluid intake after the surgery. Some of the medications like, Aspirin, Motrin, Advil, Excederin you can not take after the surgery. Vitamins are really important after bariatric surgery
